The Finger Lakes region in New York is home to the Finger Lakes Railway Corporation, a short line railroad that owns and operates 167 miles of track from its Geneva headquarters. The railway has track in 6 counties in the Finger Lakes region, including Ontario, Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Yates, and Schuyler ².
But what if we could expand the abandoned rail to connect the rail in a system that looks like a circle around the Finger Lakes? This could become a multi-trillion dollar industry, transforming the Finger Lakes into an even more lovely area.
Imagine being able to travel easily and efficiently between all of the beautiful towns and attractions in the Finger Lakes region. The expanded rail system would provide a convenient and scenic way for tourists and locals alike to explore all that the area has to offer.
Not only would this boost tourism and local economies, but it would also provide jobs and opportunities for growth. The Finger Lakes Railway Corporation already has a fleet of 19 locomotives and has added 55+ full-time employees since beginning operations in 1995 ³. Expanding the rail system would only increase these numbers.
In conclusion, expanding the abandoned rail to connect the rail in a system that looks like a circle around the Finger Lakes is a proposition worth considering. It has the potential to become a multi-trillion dollar industry, benefiting both the local economy and those who visit this beautiful region.
